An important secondary function of lymph is to maintain the fluid hydrostatic pressure. If lymph capillaries become leaky , it can result in backflow of tissue fluid into the tissue spaces leading to edema.

Primarily lymphatic system makes lymph and fights the infection to keep blood and the entire body "clean" or free of infection. 

 

However, it also participates in maintaining fluid balance.
