SHOULD THE COMMA AFTER AVAILABLE BE REPLACED BY A SEMI-COLON?

At the time of the Black Death, no vaccinations were available, therefore, the Black Death spread rapidly.

Should the comma after available be replaced by a semicolon?

And "otherwise" should be capitalized.  See, you make mistakes too!

Dear Richie: This site is about teaching and learning. It appears that your note about run-on is valid.

You write: This is in response to your endless need to correct the grammar and spelling of EVERY person that submits a question!!

I reply: If you wish to overlook many, many questions that are incomplete, vague, misspelled, et cetera, continue to do so.  I offer improvements and corrections for the purpose of helping students improve their ability to express themselves more clearly. That is what, I believe, good teachers do, and should do. I do this on a pro bono basis, free of charge. If we don't contribute to literacy, then we're negligent.
