miles per hour faster on the trip home, how far away does Josh live from the mountains?

Bob, d = rt, right? Since the distance was the same...

 

9r = 4(r + 40)

9r = 4r + 160

5r = 160

r = 32

 

Since d = rt, d = 9(32) = 288 miles.
