(y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)

 

(-3 - (-2)) / (-4 - (-1))

 

(-3 + 2) / ( -4 + 1)

 

-1 / -3 

 

1 / 3

 

Which is up 1 and then right 3.

 

The way to see this is to plot the two points and draw a line through the points.
