First solve the equation into a y= format. This is accomplished by subtracting 3x from both sides.
y + 3x = -1
y = -1 - 3x
Then pick a set of x-values for your table. I always use -2, -1, 0, 1, and 2.
With the new form of the equation, you have a formula to convert x into y.
For example,
When x = -2, y = -1 -3(-2) = -1 +6 = 5. Therefore, -2, 5 would be a row on your table.
When x = -1, y = -1 -3(-1) = -1 + 3 = 2. Therefore, -1, 2 would be a row on your table.
