Jen Butler has been pricing Speed-Pass train firs for a group to NY. Three audlts and four children muct pat $136. Two adults and three children must pay $97. Find the price of the adult ticket and the price of the child ticket.

let X be adult ticket price, Y be child ticket price.

3X+4Y=136  => 6X+8Y=272

2X+3Y=97   => 6X+9Y=291

 

minus equation on both sides:

Y=19

2X+3*19=97 => X=(97-3*19)/2 = 20

 

adult ticket cost $20

child ticket cost $19
