Word Problem

Mr. White can paint his barn in 5 days. What part of the barn is still unpainted after he has worked for x days?

In x days he paints x/5 of the barn.
That leaves 1 - x/5 to be painted.
Can you simplify?

The fraction is (5-x)/5. However, this assumes he paints uniformly throughout all 5 days. All we know is that he can paint the barn in 5 days, but its possible that one half of the house takes 4 days to paint and the other half takes only 1 day, for whatever reason. So there is a lack of information to properly solve this puzzle.
