Near a certain river, there used to be a huge forest. however, due to setting up of factories, one third of the forest was cleared in the year 2005, one fourth of the remaining forest was cleared in the year 2006, and then three fifths of the remaining forest was cleared in the year 2007. At the end of 2007, further clearing of the forest was banned. What fraction of the original forest remained after 2007?

In 2005, 1/3 of the forest was cleared leaving 2/3 of the forest

In 2006, 1/4 of the remaining 2/3 was cleared, leaving 3/4 of the 2/3, or 1/2

In 2007, 3/5 of the remaining 1/2 was cleared leaving 2/5 of the 1/2 or 1/5

 

1/5 of the original forest was left after 2007.
