A real estate agent sold two homes and received commissions totaling $6000. The agent's commission on one home was one and one-half times the commission on the second home. Find the agent's commission for each home.

Let X be the commission on the second home.

The commission on the first home is thus 1.5X.

The sum of the two is $6000.

 

X + 1.5X = 6000

2.5X = 6000

X = 2400           Second home

 

1.5 X = (1.5)(2400) = 3600       First home
