Chance knows the length of a football field (including end zones) is 120 yards. The width of the football field is 53.33 yards. What is the area of the football field, rounded appropriately?

Area = Length x Width

 

Area = 120 yards x 53.33 yards = 6,399.6 yards²

 

I'm not sure exactly what answer your teacher wants, so here are two options:

 

If your teacher just wants you to round to the nearest whole number, the answer would be 6,400 yards² because the .6 rounds the answer up.

 

If your teacher is interested in significant figures, the answer is also 6,400 yards² because the number of sigfigs is equal to the lowest number of sigfigs in the equation. Since 120 only has two sigfigs, the answer should only have two sigfigs, which would be 6,400 yards².
