When the product of –8 and an unknown number is decreased by 6, the result is –5. Find the number.

product means multiplication, unknown number means a variable [x], decreased means subtract, result means equals

-8x - 6 = -5

      +6   +6

-8x     =    1

÷(-8)    ÷(-8)
