It is true since specific bacterial species participate in both nitrification and denitrification. Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter participate in nitrification converting ammonia into nitrites and nitrates respectively. Ammonia is toxic for plants. Dentirification occurs by different set of bacteria such as pseudomonas, it uses nitrate for respiration and releases free Nitrogen in atmosphere, such free inert gas is not toxic for plants and wild life as well as communities.
