joyce is helping to make wreaths for her womens club to sell at a local bazaar. She will be making the bows for each wreath. she has 60 feet of ribbon to start. she needs 1 1/2 feet of ribbon for each bow. How many bows has joyce made if she has 6 feet of ribbon left.

She has 6 ft of ribbon remaining, so that would make 4 additional bows (irrelevant).

 

But she has used up 54 ft of ribbon.

First we need to figure out how much ribbon she has used. 60-6=54ft

 

Now that we know she used 54ft of ribbon, let's see how many wreaths she made with the 54ft.

 

1.5ft ribbon          54ft of ribbon

1 bow                       x

 

then we will solve for X. we cross multiply and get the equation..... 1.5X=54

 

54/1.5= 36.
