An art director has 75 photos in an art exhibit. of these, 9 are color photos and 6 are black and white photos. The director wants to add more color photos so that they represent 25%of the photos in the exhibit. write and solve a proportion find the number of photos to be added.Then find the total number of photos in the exhibit

75 = 9(color) + 6(bw) + [75 - (9 + 6)] = 9(color) + 6(bw) + 60

 

Add x to the 9(color), which increases the grand total to 75 + x

 

75 + x = (9 + x)(color) + 6(bw) + 60

 

Total color = 25% of grand total, so ratio of color to grand total is 0.25

 

(9 + x) / (75 + x) = 0.25

 

(9 + x) = 0.25(75 + x)

 

9 + x = 18.75 + 0.25x

 

x = (18.75 - 9) / (1 - 0.25) = 13

 

You added 13 color photos, so new color total is 9 + 13 = 22

New grand total is 75 + 13 = 88

Ratio of new color total to new grand total is 22/88 = 0.25, i.e. new color total is 25% of new grand total
