The south used segregated laws that restricted the rights of African-Americans. That means African-Americans can only use facilities within their designation sections. Also, there were certain places that they could not go to. For example, some restaurants, some schools, the front seats of the buses, etc. These segregated laws were known as the Jim Crow Laws. It kept Africans-American citizens and white citizens separate.
