Word Problem.

Question

You work for a design company and want to enlarge one of your deisgns for a new billboard sign. You can enlarge the design by 120% every time you run the program. The original design is 12 inches wide by 24 inches long.

 

a. Write a function that represents the width after t times that you can run the program.

 

b. How wide is the design after running the program five times?

 

c. How many times would you have to run the program for the design to be at least 150 feet wide?

 

I've been stuck on this for a long time, and I need help solving it. Post your work here and please don't email me since I rarely check it. Thanks in advance if you take your time to do this :)

1. W_new = W_original x 1.2^t

 

2. W_new = 12 inches x 1.2⁵ = 12 inches x 2.48832 = 29.85984 inches

 

3. Enlarging the photograph by a factor of 1.2 does not compute evenly into 150 feet (1800 inches). At t = 26, the photograph would be 137.37 feet (1648.46 inches), and the next level (t = 27)  the photograph would be 164.84 feet (1978.14 inches) in width.
