A circular pool is 5 meters in diameter is surrounded by a wooden deck 1.5 meters wide. What is the area of the deck?

I'm confused a little on this one two I found the area of the pool just need help with the deck.

if the area of of a circle is pi X r² then the area of the deck is the total area of both the pool and deck minus the area of the pool

 

If A=pi X r2 and the radius is always half the diameter

The total diameter is 6.5 meters, so the total radius is 3.25 meters

Now square the radius and multiply by pi 3.14 

r2=10.56   pi r²⁼33.17

now get the area of the circle which is 2.5^2 x 3.14=6.25 x 3.14=19.625

Finally subtract the area of the pool from the total area  total area   33.17 - 19.625= 13.545 sq ft

 

Your teacher might have a rule about rounding pi.  Use her/his rule.  I used 3.14

Area of the pool is 19.62 m²

 

Draw a circle for the pool, then another outer circle for the deck.  Diameter of the pool circle is 5 m and the deck circle will add 1.5 + 1.5 = 3 meters to the diameter of the circle.   So the diameter of the deck circle will be 5+3 = 8 m,

radius is 4 m.

 

Find the area of the bigger deck circle and the subtract the area of the pool to find the area of the deck.

 

Area of the deck circle = 3.14 * 4²

A = 50.24 m²

 

Now subtract 

 

50.24 - 19.62 = 30.62 m²

 

Area of the deck = 30.62 m²

I'm guessing that they mean that the deck is 1.5 meters wider than the pool on all sides. That would make the width and length of the deck 3 feet longer than the diameter of the pool. You need to subtract the area of the pool from the product to get the area of the deck.
