What is the difference between the contraction of a disease and the transmission of one?

I have to give the contraction, transmission, and prevention of several diseases for my human anatomy class but not exactly sure what the difference is between the contraction and transmission.

Look up the meanings of the words. One means to transfer the disease and the other means to catch the disease.

I'm not a scientist but I usually contracting a disease means you get sick, and transmitting a disease means you give it to someone else.
