COLD, LOW PRESSURE 

 

For a tornado to happen the following need be present:

a) unusualLy warm and humid conditions in the lower atmosphere with possibly cooler than usual conditions on the upper atmosphere.

b) shear wind instability in the lower atmosphere 

 

 

For a thunderstorm to happen the following need be present:

a) an air mass becomes unusually warm and humid a its lowest atmosphere level or the upper atmosphere levels are unusually cool (sometimes both)

b) shear instability of winds in the lower atmosphere 

 

 

Definition:

 

Shear Wind Instability means,the changing of wind direction with speed and height increasing.

 

The severe spinning of a tornado is partly due to the updrafts and downdrafts of the  thunderstorm (caused by unstable air) merging with the wind shear forming an upright tornado vortex.

 

Since cloud precipitation originates as water vapor, there needs to be proper amounts of water vapor for the storm to form. This makes the fuel for the thunderstorm and is converted into rainfall.

 

Eventually,  the storm stabilizes the atmosphere by using up the excess watee vapor by cooling the lower atmosphere and warming the upper.

 

Hence, "COLD, LOW PRESSURE"
