This forum is not meant for religious debates. However, this question can be boiled down to the concept of presuppositions. If you desire to get involved in that, I recommend "Van Til's Apologetic," by Dr. Greg Bahsen, which clarifies the philosophical concepts of presuppositions throughout the philosophical world.

Thus, the complexity of this question is not due to the question itself. It is due to the primary presupposition you find yourself with: "1) Naturalism, 2) Supernaturalism, 3) What branch of 1 or 2 do I hold to?"

It gets even worse when I add to the mix the different branchs of Naturalism which have to be addressed.

In sum, before this question is answered the person asking it needs to be challenged about their presuppositional foundation.

This a question of religious beliefs.

In a simplified form, you have two beliefs to choose from:

If you believe evolution, you would say that a transitional animal layed an egg, out of which a chicken hatched.  The egg came first for the evolutionist.

If you believe creationism, you would say that God created chickens, which then layed eggs.  The chicken came first for the creationist.
