Why did American forces bomb Baghdad on March 20, 2003?

President George W. Bush and his henchman V. P. Dick Cheney bamboozled the U.S. Congress and much of the public, alleging without proof that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.  Even respected Colin Powell, went along with this sham, presenting 'evidence' to the United Nations. This was a brilliant misinformation campaign, and it tarnished the reputation of the United States of America. Subsequent events have finally discredited this illegal war, but the damage done to us continues to this day. It's always best to be very skeptical when old men want to wage war, sacrificing the young.

"Operation Enduring Freedom" was the name of this mission.  The U.S., plus a coalition of 3 other nations were fighting together. The end result was to depose, or end, the government of the ruler of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. On 3/20/03 there was an air strike on his Presidential Palace. Later, the American forces invaded in a conventionally fought war.  These forces captured Baghdad, Iraq's capital, that month.
