Hi Chris,
Which equation represents the graph line with the coordinate points (-6,-8) (6,-4) in point slope form.
Point slope for of a linear equation is: y-y1=m(x-x1)
Where (x1,y1) is a point on the line and m is the slope of the line.
Substitute in one of the points
I am using (6,-4).
y-(-4)=m(x-9)
y+4=m(x-9)
Now calculate the slope, m.
(-6,-8) (6,-4)
-4-(-8)
--------=
6-(-6)
4

reduce the fraction by dividing both the numerator and denominator by 4
1
-- =m

Substitute value into our equation
y+4=m(x-9)
y+4=(1/3)(x-9)
ANSWER: Point slope form is y+4=(1/3)(x-9)
