I'm guessing the reference is to the events of 1791-1804, during which the French colony of Saint-Domingue achieved its independence and became the sovereign state known ever since then as Haïti. This country has experienced many coups and governmental upheavals throughout its history, but I believe only the actual separation from France is referred to as the Haïtian "Revolution," much like the American Revolution resulted in Great Britain's loss of control of a segment of North America.

In terms of whether the revolution in Haïti was a "success," I would say that in the sense of achieving political independence, certainly it was since obviously France no longer exerts control over this former colony. In addition, a major consequence of the Haïtian Revolution was the end of slavery in that land, so definitely this was a positive outcome for everyone concerned--except the planters and plantation owners who relied on imported African slave labor--as well as being a partial inspiration for other eventually successful abolition movements like in the United States.
