My teacher wants us to use linear systems. I tried to make a chart to figure out the equations but it didn't quite work.

Let s = COST of 1 subway ticket & let b = COST of 1 bus ticket.

 

6s + 4b = 24

3s + 7b = 27

 

solve for s & b, using algebra (substitution into one equation after solving the other equation for b).

 

When you have the "s & b" answers, you can then calculate 5s + 2b, which is what they want.
