a 5in by 8in photo was enlarged to make a poster. The dimensions of the poster are x2-6 in by x 2+12 poster. What are the dimensions of the poster

The ratio of the sides of the poster must be the same as the ratio of the sides of the photo

 

(x² - 6) / (x² + 12) = 5 / 8

8(x² - 6) = 5(x² + 12)

8x² - 48 = 5x² + 60

3x² = 108

x² = 36

x = ± 6

 

Substitute 6 for x in the poster dimensions.
