    Hi, here are some steps to follow:

Question:  What fraction of the beads are blue?       Fraction= Part/Total

1.  Underline key words and numbers.  

 

2.  Total number of beads= 18

 

3.  We are not interested in the number of red beads; we want to know how many blue there are after we subtract the red ones.     18-6= 12

 

The story tells us that the rest(the remainder) are blue.  That means that the remainder is 12.  Now you need a fraction.  Part/total= 12/18=          Just put the answer in lowest terms, and you are done.
