If the expected increase is 50% by 2050, then

 

1,100,000 x .5 = 550,000  This is the increase.

 

Add it to the starting population and you have

 

1,100,000

   550,000

1,650,000

 

 

Another way to solve this if you're comfortable with percent increases/decreases and factors, is to recognize that as a factor a 50% increase is 1.5

 

Then 

1100000 x 1.5 = 1,650,000
