what happened to the native americans during the gold rush?

We are learning about the gold rush in school but my teacher wont answer my question... I was wondering if I could get an answer here?

Anyway, bottom line:  the gold rush completed the conquest of native American California.  Whenever white prospectors and settlers felt the natives were in the way, the Indians were slaughtered.  At first many prospectors were native Amerucans, abd  the white did not want the competition. Killing

Indians became a policy.  In  truth, even non-miners took advantage of the situation to get rid of indians on their land.

 

In the end, most estimates state that 4 out of 5 Native Americans  were killed between about 1845 and 1860 in california, either by violence or disease.
