The easiest way to do this problem is to convert the given information into feet. We then can see that the surface is 15 feet high (as given by 180/12) and 4 feet wide, so to find the area we multiply 15 * 4 = 60 feet.
 
The other way to do this problem is to see that the surface is 8,640 square inches (180*48). Since there are 144 square inches in a square foot, we divide 8,640 by 144 and get 60 feet.
