The French and Indian War provided for the foundations of the American Revolution, as the inhabitants of the 13 American colonies saw how they were treated and respected by the British government across the Atlantic Ocean. After the conflict, the French ambitions were held in check while settlements were protected from the Native Indians. But the war was costly for the British government due to the money, soldiers, and resources spent. Thus, taxes were imposed on the colonies to recover the financial strains, leading to resentment and protests that catapulted the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. Nonetheless, the 13 colonies realized that they had identities of their own - distinct from being subjects of the British Crown and Empire.
