Let x = the amount of gasoline to fill the station's tank
After the transfer the truck will have 8100 - x gallons, that is x gallons less.
Similarly the station will then have x + 400 gallons, that is x gallons more.
Since after the transfer the truck has 4 times as much as the station we can write:
8100 - x = 4(x+400)
8100 - x = 4x + 1600
5x = 6500
x = 1300 gallons
Check it out.
After truck will have 8100 - 1300 = 6800 gallons. And 6800 is 4 times 1700.
