I need to find x in this equation.

You need to isolate x so that you get the equation to take the form of "x = __".

Begin by getting all the "x's" on one side of the equal sign and everything else on the other side:

                        

                                       9x = 7x + 3

                                       9x - 7x = 7x + 3 -7x   Subtract 7x from both sides to get all the "x's" on one side

                                       2x = 3

                                         x = 3/2  Divide both sides by 2 to get the form of "x = __"

Check your answer:

                                       9(3/2) = 7(3/2) + 3

                                       27/2 = 21/2 + 3

                                       27/2 = 21/2 + 6/2    Must change 3 into a fraction with the same denominator as the others

                                      27/2 = (21 + 6)/2

                                       27/2 = 27/2  Correct

 

ANSWER:  x = 3/2

     9X= 7X +3         You only want "X" on one side of the equal sign, so subtract the smaller X, which is 7X,  from both

 

sides of the equal sign.

 

 

9X-7X= 7X-7X +3                     Simplify.

 

 

2X= 3               Divide by the number next to X, which is "2," and you have your answer.  I will let you finish the
