your family is driving on the highway.the amount of gas in the tank after 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hour is 19.5 gallons, 17 gallons, and 14.5 gallons, respectively. A. Write an equation for the amount of gas left the Nth hour of driving. B. How much gas will be left in the tank after 8 hours?

We see that the amount of gas in the tank is reducing 

 

according to the expression 2.5n

 

where n is the number of hours we have 22 gallons starting off then we have 19.5, 17 and finally 14.5 after 3 hours

 

so our equation for amount of gas

 

22-2.5n

 

after 8 hours plus 8 for n

 

22-8(2.5)

 

= 2

 

so we have 2 gallons left after 8 hours of driving
