Hi, Natalie.  You need to combine like terms.  Right now there are three terms in the expression.  Two of the terms have the variable "x."  You can combine them.

 

8x - 5 +2x is the same as 8x + (-5) + 2x.  You can add in any order (5+3 =3+5), so you can rewrite the expression as:

8x + 2x -5.  Now combine 8x and 2x to get 10x -5.
