Definition of %:   Percentage = (Number of desired outcomes) ÷ (Number of total possible choices) * 100

 

In this problem, we have Percentage is 18%, X is the desired outcomes, 100 is total choices

 

18% = X/100    rewrite the % as a fraction:  18/100

 

18/100 = X/100

 

18 = X

 

So 18 students earned an A.
