Hi Joe,
I used to live on Rodney Street in Port Jeff Station back in the 1970's. . . I guess that's before you were born.
I graduated from JFK High School . . Comsewogue High wasn't built yet.
So, the question says that one unit equals 30 minutes.
The information about half a unit is unnecessary because you should be able to figure that out on your own. . . half of 1 unit is 1/2 unit and half of 30 minutes is 15 minutes.
Now, the question asks how many units equals 10 minutes.
There are a few ways of solving this.
One way is to realize that 10 minutes is 1/3 of 30 minutes . . . 1/3 x 30 = 10
So it would have to equal 1/3 of a unit.
The other way is to set up ratios: 1 unit is to 30 as X units is to 10:
1/ 30 = X / 10
Cross multiply . . top of one fraction times the bottom of the other. . .30X = 10
Now divide both sides by 30--> X = 10/30 which reduces to 1/3 by dividing top and bottom by 10
