The Standard Form for the equation of a line looks like  Ax + By = C.

 

 y + 9 = 2(x + 5)
 y + 9 = 2x + 10                      [distribute]

  y = 2x + 1                      [subtract 9 from both sides]

  y - 2x = 1                       [subtract 2x from both sides]

  -2x + y = 1                   [put x first]

   2x - y = -1                   [multiply by -1 to make x coefficient positive]
