Okay so we have (2/15) = (20)/(x-8)
I want to try and isolate the x-8 term so to do this I will start by multyplying both sides by it so I can get rid of it in the denominator.
(x-8)(2/15)=20
Now that its not in the denominator we can isolate it (seems easier now because no fractions)
x-8=20(15/2)
x-8=300/2
x-8=150
x=150+8
x=158

Elementary and Algebraic skilled
2/15 = 20/(x - 8)
We start with cross multiplying:
2/15 * (x - 8) = 20/(x - 8) * (x - 8)
2(x - 8) / 15 = 20
2(x - 8) = 20 * 15
2(x - 8) = 300
Distribute:
2x - 16 = 300
Add 16 to both sides:
2x - 16 + 16 = 300 + 16
2x = 316
Divide both sides by 2:
2x / 2 = 316 / 2
x = 158
Check:
2/15 = 20/(158 - 8)
2/15 = 20/150
2/15 = 2/15
