Richard's estate is to be split equally among his four children. If his estate is worth $2 1/9
million, how much will each child inherit?

1/9 million is unusual, but let's take it.

 

First change the 2 1/9 to an improper fraction:     19/9

Then divide it four ways:    (19/9) / 4

Now, to divide by 4/1, invert it and multiply:    (19/9)*(1/4)

                                                                  $ 527,777.77  each

   (note: we can't round up -- that requires more money from somewhere)
