The universal decleration on Human rights was adopted by the UN due to the experiences of WW2.

What aspects of WW2 might have led the United Nations to want to make human rights a major priority?

The Western Allies (Britain and USA) framed the conflict in terms of democracy vs. dictatorship.  The massive abuse of human rights by the Nazis in Occupied Europe, especially the Holocaust, made it easy to view the conflict in these terms.  The scale of the Holocaust certainly shocked many people and may have contributed to the desire to define a clear set of basic human rights.
