I need to solve this linear inequality but I don't know if I'm going to need two answers or not.

Since the value of x could be positive or negative, the inequality must be solved twice.

 

1. x ≥ 0

x - 21 > -11      add 21 to both sides

x > 10

 

2. x < 0

-x - 21 > -11    add 21 to both sides

-x > 10            multiply both sides by -1 (order of inequality reverses)

x < -10

 

x < -10 or x > 10
