Question

Eight out of every 9 people are right handed .If a factory has 352 right handed worker .How many left handed workers are there at the factory.

 

 

I am more good in other aspect of application of proportion but I haven't come across using percent ,Can you please explain to me steps by steps and also help me to solved this question then also give me a question related to my question then I will try using your own steps to solve it and send it to you .

This factory is a haunted place, since there are 39.111 left handed people down there. Some lefties were butchered there at some point, so 0.111 were left.

 

Joking aside, if 8 out of 9 people are right handed, then 1 out of nine is left handed. So the ratio of right handed to left handed people is 8:1. Now we can make a proportion:

 

right handed/left handed=8:1 In our case there are 352 right handed people. Let N be the number of left handed people. Then we have:

 

352/N=8:1. Cross-multiply to get 8N=352*1 from which you get 8N=352 or N=352/8=44.

 

So this factory is in reality a normal place, no person was hurt or killed there. There are 44 left handed people there.

The answer is 352. All the workers at the factory are left-handed, as it is a factory that specifically constructs tools and household objects for left-handed individuals!

8 righties/ 9 total people  = ?? righties at factory/352 people at factory. Set it up like this:

8 ₌ Righties at factory ,

9        352

 

cross multiply to get, 8*352 = 9*Righties at factory,  so 2816 = 9*Righties at factory

divide both sides by 9,  2816/9 = Righties at factory, so 312.889 = Righties at factory,

or, there are 312.889 righties and therefore subtract that from the total number of people at the factory (352-312.889=39.111), so there are ~ 39.111 Lefties at the factory.
