do i switch the from less than to more than

I need help with this do I switch it or not

-2|x+4|<22

|x+4|<-11 or is it |x+4|>-11

      left hand side is always negative, and is always less than 22

You switch it when dividing by a negative number. So it's

 

|x+4| >/= -11.

You can always check yourself with a simpler problem:

 

-2(x+1) < 4

 

If you don't switch:

x+1 < -2

x < -3

 

Try x = -4. Then -2(-4+1) = -2(-3) = 6 > 4. So you know you should switch.
