I need help with a word problem

Question

On the second day, the customer service team had planned to double the number of calls answered the first day, but they exceeded that by three doze. Seventy five dozen custome service calls in two days set a new record

Let X = number of dozen calls the first day 

 

They exceeded by 3 dozen their plan to double the number of calls, so the number of calls on the second day = 2*X + 3

 

The total number of calls is 75 dozen so  

 

X + (2*X + 3) = 75

3*X = 72

X = 24 dozen calls the first day 

 

2*X + 3 = 51 dozen calls the second day.  

 

Check:  24 + 51 = 75 dozen
