If you mean log381, then log381 = log3(34) = 4    [loga(ar) = r]

Note that logarithms are basically "anti-exponents"
If  an = x   then  logax=n
 
For this problem   log381 = x  ...  3x=81   ...   x=4
 
This is why Mark's note of the formula  loga(ar)=r is true
