The first thing we need to do is subtract 14 years from the 115 year total (7 for Jack, 7 for Jill). That leaves us 101 years (which is the sum of their ages now).

 

Next we need to devise a formula which represents their current ages, so we'll make Jack's age (j), and Jill's age (j+83).

That means j + (j+83) = 101, or 2j+83=101.

 

If we subtract 83 from both sides, we're left with 2j=18 where j=9. Jack is now 9 years old.  If we add 83 to Jack's age, we'll get Jill's age, which is 92.
