Can you tell us the way "they" want you to solve it and the way you want to do it? Then we can say whether your way would work, too, or why it won't.
Also, are you trying to solve 2n + 3 = 0? Or is there more to the problem? We need to see the whole thing.

But to really help the original poster, Damerius, we need to know if that is what was intended and also how they wanted it solved and how his way differed (so we can help him understand why it was solved using a certain method).
