if a+2b=5 and c=3; what is value of a+2(b+c)

 one would need at least one more value for either a or b to solve? see  the three equations in my question

a+2b =5   , c=3

 

a+2(b+c)

= a + 2b + 2c    substituting the values,

= 5 + 2(3)

=5+6

=11

Actually, you have enough information to solve.  Completely factor out the third equation and you will see that you have enough information to substitute the values you were given to solve the problem.
