What a thought provoking assignment!
If you are writing an autobiographical reflection from a sociological perspective, you would need to analyze your experience through one of the sociological lenses you have covered in class. Since you are focusing on your experience in a single parent home, studying authors and journals that focus on the sociology of family would be most advantageous.
You could start by defining, in sociological terms, what constitutes a family and the different forms a family can take. You could then compare/contrast your experience to data obtained in peer reviewed journals regarding income, access to education, deviance, housing, and/or access to healthcare reported by other single parent families.
If I were doing this project, I would define family using my textbook or academic journals and then describe my family and some of the challenges I experienced in that single parent home. Then I would search for credible sources on the thing that was most challenging for me (let's say it was difficult to maintain health insurance because your parent's boss never offered it), and then see if there is data about single parent families and their access to healthcare. Then describe how your experience is similar or different from reported data.
