In all cases, you would substitute the number in parentheses for x and solve the equation.  For example..

f(4) = 3/4 * 4 + 2

f(4) = 3 + 2

f(4) = 5

f(-4) = 3/4 * -4 + 2

f(-4) = -3 + 2

f(-4) = -1
